"This is the River Gravatai of the Future"

A shocking image is getting the attention of the cities of Alvorada, Cachoeirinha and Gravataí was posted on dozens of billboards in the metro area. This is the first publicity campaign of the Aguapé (Water Hyacinth) Project - education and consciousness-raising in efforts to recover the Gravataí River. The initiative is from Rotary Clubs from the three cities. The principal objective is to change attitudes and behaviors of the local population regarding the river. Over the next three years, more than U$500,000 will be invested in actions of cleanup, tree planting, education, and patrolling.

Local billboards are already receiving the name of the project, revealing who is driving this initiative. Rotary members and volunteers want to demonstrate that it is possible to have a new river if there is sufficient consciousness-raising and action. Through this campaign and its resultant actions, it will be possible to create a new scenario for future generations that does not involve river pollution. On May 27th, the official statewide launch of the Aguape Project will take place.
