Within hours of the Haiti earthquake, Google set up Haitianquake.com collecting and disseminating information about missing and found people.
This central 'People finder' database helps people looking for relatives or friends hopefully replacing the dozens of competing and incompatible databases which tended to spring up following earlier disasters, and in the case of Katrina, adding greatly to the chaos.
The this resource should be instantly available for all future disasters. Humanitarian websites should make people aware of it.
